PAT knowledge and advice

At DC PAT services we believe education on electrical testing and inspection is just as relevant as performing the testing itself. Therefore if you are looking for some basic awareness and understanding as to what the requirements actually are we can provide guidance and educational materials regarding PAT testing. It isn't rocket science and no one should ever tell you so!

As a general rule of thumb it is highly recommended to have your portable electrical appliances tested on a yearly basis. If you follow this simple rule of thumb and abide by the following laws and regulations you should never go wrong:

  • Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.
  • Electricity at Works regulations of 1989.
  • Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations 1994.
  • PUWER 1998.
  • Electrical Safety Standards in the Private Rented Sector (England) Regulations 2020.
  • Electricity at Work Regulations 1989.

AT DC PAT Services we follow all current government legislation and also utilise the latest British Standards for testing:

  • BS EN 50699:2020 Recurrent Tests of Electrical Equipment.
  • BS EN 50678:2020 Verifying effectiveness of equipment after repair.
  • IET Code of Practice for the in-service Inspection and Testing of Portable Electrical Equipment 5th Edition.

On site PAT testing

DC PAT Services aims to support all types of businesses, whether they be self employed one person micro businesses or large companies. We ensure that a RAMS (Risk Assessment and Method Statement) is available for all jobs and this can be provided upon request. All of your Health and Safety policies will be fully abided by.  Initially all of your electrical equipment required for testing will need to be identified and located and then the testing can begin. All PAT testing begins with a thorough visual inspection of the equipment first , which is one of the main methods of finding faulty and damaged equipment.

Upon completion of the electrical testing using industry leading calibrated testers you will receive a testing certificate and a detailed report of each item tested logged against an asset number that will match the label attached to the device for each item tested. DC PAT Services upon your request can ensure that we maintain an accurate database for all your yearly records and will schedule in your next test date so that you don't need to worry.

Offices and schools

Starting with the typical office building with ICT equipment and schools with similar requirements. Given that powering down workstations during the normal working day can be extremely disruptive our out of hours testing is very convenient. I have enhanced DBS.

Building sites

DC PAT Services has all the necessary test equipment to test electrical appliances in harsher environments such as building sites where 110V is more common.

Factories

Having worked in manufacturing environments for over 10 years I fully understand the hazards and risks of the equipment used and have the where with all to test equipment without imposing on day to day operations.

Lettings and HMO

If you are a landlord of a small letting or a HMO your duties and responsibilities to your tenants are extremely important and must be taken seriously. Never get caught out by not having your electrical appliances regularly tested.

Sole traders and SMEs

Micro sized businesses are catered for and there is no job too small! If you are a sole trader DJ or mobile kitchen you are just as much a priority as a large multinational! Small medium enterprises are the lifeblood of the nation and DC PAT Services prioritises you over the big corporations!

Armed Forces / Blue light

Given my time serving as an Officer in the Army I remain fully committed to serving those in uniform who serve the nation. I have enhanced DBS and once was SC cleared given my roles in the MIlitary. Forces discounts apply.

Plug and fuse replacement

Plugs, fuses and sockets checked as part of the service.

As part of the PAT testing service plugs, fuses and sockets are visually checked. Sockets will be tested with an industry standard socket tester up to 10 sockets per job for free. As part of the visual inspection of a plug, the plug itself and fuse will be checked. Should they be deemed damaged they will be replaced free of charge for an unlimited number of fuses and up to five plugs.

Lithium Ion battery safety and training

My current engineering role at the UK Battery Industrialisation Centre sees me working with the latest in lithium ion battery technology. In many of the places I have PAT tested portable appliances there will be a lithium ion battery in some format.

As can be seen more and more often in the news, the frequency of lithium ion battery fires inside premises such as houses and offices is increasing rapidly. I am well positioned to give training and advice on how to handle, use, store and charge your portable appliances that are connected to a lithium ion battery.
